SOG Seal Pup Elite
SOG's fixed-blade counterpart to the Terminus XR folder, and the knife most people mean when they say SOG. A 4.85" clip point in AUS-8 at .185" thick, with a spine rasp for notching and a hard nylon MOLLE sheath. AUS-8 is a soft steel by modern standards; the trade is that it comes back on a stone in the field in about a minute.

Why a clip point
The front third of the spine is 'clipped' away in a concave sweep, dropping the point below the spine line and putting it out in front. That makes a finer, more controllable tip than a drop point — better for piercing, slightly weaker under load. The Buck 110 pattern is the archetype.

Japanese mid-tier that aged well: tough for its hardness and very easy to bring back.
1-5 is a relative ranking drawn from published composition and hardness, not a lab measurement. Higher is better on every axis, and no steel is a 5 across the board — edge retention and toughness pull against each other. All AUS-8 knives
